The Vanguard Pickleball Paddle is an excellent paddle for intermediate and advanced pickleball players who are looking for a paddle that is lightweight, fast, and built to last.
Available in three models, this paddle features the QuadCarbon Face, one of the most popular pickleball face designs. The paddle is responsive and has a low swing weight. We tested the paddle with an intermediate player and found it provided excellent power.
The paddle is well balanced and has great control. The handle is long enough for good reach, and the grip is wide enough for a comfortable feel. We like the lightweight (7.8 oz), which moves faster through the net.
The paddle is available in two models, one that uses 32 mm grommets and a second that uses the company’s own grommets. Both models are available in lengths of 16.5″, and you can choose to add two grips, one standard and one extra wide.
We recommend the paddle to advanced players who want great control, a lightweight paddle, and the ability to handle more power.
Benefits:
- Lightweight, responsive paddle
- Good power
- Good control
Drawbacks:
- Large price tag
How It Performs in Our Test:
Our test panel found that the Vanguard Pickleball Paddle was excellent at staying in contact with the net. The paddle provides good power, and the handles are well balanced for excellent control. The paddle is still balanced even with one hand.
Who Should Buy This:

The Invikta Amped is such that it is frequently used by professional players. The paddle is one of the lightest we have tested. The paddle head and handle are octagonal and lie flat on the pickleball court.
This shape provides exceptional accuracy when serving and volleying. The Invikta amped is well balanced, and is extremely comfortable. The handle is 5 inches long which is a good length, providing good leverage for extended play.
The paddle comes with a 90-degree angle head, which is recommended for serving, volleying, and digging. The paddle includes a matching case. The paddle weighs 8.1 ounces. The Invikta Amped undergoes extensive production testing at the manufacturing facility.
This testing includes surface treatment, edge checking, and face flatness. The Invikta Amped features a durable FiberFlex Fiberglass face and a thicker X5 Polymer Core. The X5 Polymer Core provides increased ball cushioning, and dampens vibration. The Invikta Amped is USAPA approved.
Benefits:
- Incredible performance for power players
- Lightweight and comfortable
- Includes a paddle case
Drawbacks:
- Small head, which makes it difficult to hit for high power
How It Performs in Our Test:
The Invikta Amped is undoubtedly the best paddle we have tested. Its light weight makes it ideal for younger and lighter players, and its outstanding maneuverability makes it an excellent companion for power players. The paddle is well-balanced and comfortable to use, and it comes at a great price.
Who Should Buy This:
The Selkirk Amped INVIKTA Pickleball Paddle is an excellent paddle that is suitable for young players, power players, and club players.

If you’re looking for a first paddle, the Evo is a good option. The paddle weighs 7.5 ounces, which is light enough for most people’s hands but feels sturdy enough to deliver good feedback for experienced players looking for a solid first paddle.
The paddle has a wide, square face, which makes it perfect for players who like their shots to be heavy, and the narrow grip helps players keep their hands close to the paddle while blocking shots.
The paddle’s stiffness means it absorbs impact well, and the long handle makes this a great choice for players looking for a longer paddle to reach the court’s net. The paddle comes with an adjustable strap and a handy storage bag that fits the paddle snugly and protects the paddle from scratches.
Benefits:
- Solid but not too heavy
- Very affordable
Drawbacks:
- Some players may prefer a stiffer paddle
- Handle is relatively short compared to the other paddles we tested
How It Performs in Our Test:
We found that the Pickleball Evo Paddle had good balance, and the handles were comfortable to hold. The balance helped players keep the paddle close to their body while blocking shots, and the wide face made it easy to bank shots. The paddle’s balance also made it easy to swing the paddle quickly.
Who Should Buy This:
If you’re a beginner looking for a first paddle, the Pickleball Evo Paddle is a solid choice because it delivers good feedback. Players should note that the Pickleball Evo Paddle is slightly heavier than some of the other paddles we tested, so it may be too heavy for players who like lighter paddles.
Selkirk SLK Atlas Graphite
- Ideal for Pickleball

While the SLK Graphite Atlas Control Widebody Paddle has some nice features, including an upgraded graphite face, it’s still a middle of the road paddle.
The paddle has a heftier feel that makes it feel a little more substantial than most paddles, but the grip is narrow, narrowing the surface area in contact with the face. The face width is about average, and the paddle has a low profile.
The paddle was fairly responsive and had a nice feel for low swings, but tall swings felt awkward. The paddle was well balanced and gave off a nice consistent high snap on every hit.
Like many paddles, the Atlas Control Widebody did not handle flips well, but it could handle aggressive hyzer shots better than some. Overall, this paddle is a good value for the price.
Benefits:
- Aesthetically pleasing design
- Nice feel
Drawbacks:
- Narrow grip
- Limited durability
How It Performs in Our Test:
In our test, we found that the SLK Graphite Atlas Control Widebody Paddle was responsive and had a nice feel for low swings, but tall swings felt awkward. The paddle was well balanced and gave off a nice consistent high snap on every hit.
Who Should Buy This:
If you like the aesthetics and weight of a graphite paddle, but want a little more forgiveness, the SLK Graphite Atlas Control Widebody Paddle is a good value for the money.

The SLK Graphite Latitude Widebody is a great paddle. Now don’t get me wrong, it’s not a bad paddle, it’s just that the price range is lower. This is a nice paddle for a first timer or mid-intermediate player.
It’s a step up from the sick sports entry level and is a good power paddle. I am not an intermediate player, but I recently started playing again and this paddle was really nice. It’s light, and while it’s on the lighter side, it’s still pretty sturdy.
The grip is very comfortable and I found that I have been hitting with a lot more power now. At 4 1/4″, the grip circumference is pretty standard, and is sized to fit most hands. The shaft is pretty long, coming in at 5 1/4″.
The paddle width is 8 1/4″, so it is nice and wide. The paddle comes with the adjustable paddle, which I personally don’t like, but it’s whatever. The paddle is not advanced, but it is a step above the basic. This paddle will get you going, but it isn’t too great of an upgrade.
Benefits:
- Decent power and speed
- Great grip and comfort
Drawbacks:
- Paddle adjusts to wider paddles
How It Performs in Our Test:
This paddle is decent, but I felt that I was missing just a little bit of power. It drives the ball farther than the Sickest Sports entry level paddle and is faster than the Sickest Sports intermediate paddle. It’s not a bad paddle, but I felt that I was missing a little power.
Who Should Buy This:
If you want a decent paddle that is a step above the entry level paddle, then the SLK Graphite Latitude Widebody paddle is for you.

This is a fine set of paddles for the beginner or intermediate player, but note that it’s not a high-performance model. The Graphite face makes it feel lighter, easier to swing, and slower to get up to speed, but many players find that feel off-putting.
The paddles also don’t have the slick surface that you’ll find on higher-end models, so they require more surface prep and, although they appear durable, you’re not likely to find yourself playing 300+ rounds with these.
The balls are a bit flimsy, and they’re not great for multiple-ball games, but that’s forgivable given the low price. And if you’re a heavy hitter, you’ll find these paddles to be on the lightweight side.
Benefits:
- Fairly lightGood grip
Drawbacks:
- Balls are a bit flimsy
How It Performs in Our Test:
Our test panel reported good grip, and they liked the feel of the slightly softer face. They also found the grip to be comfortable for the price.
Who Should Buy This:
These paddles are a good choice for beginning or intermediate players.
